Circle Line Pier 83 is not just a boat dock on the Hudson River — it is the starting point for one of New York City’s most beloved and enduring experiences. Nestled along the west side of Midtown Manhattan at the corner of 12th Avenue and West 42nd Street, Pier 83 has welcomed curious visitors and loyal locals alike for over 80 years, offering an unmatched perspective of the city that never sleeps from the water.

Whether you are a first-time tourist hoping to photograph the Statue of Liberty up close, a seasoned New Yorker seeking a fresh look at the skyline, or a history enthusiast fascinated by one of America’s great maritime landmarks, Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises delivers an experience that no rooftop bar or observation deck can replicate.

A Storied History: Over 80 Years on the Hudson

Founded in 1945, Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises holds the distinction of being New York City’s first and most iconic sightseeing fleet. In the eight decades since its founding, it has carried more than 85 million passengers around the island of Manhattan — a number that speaks to its enduring place in the hearts of New Yorkers and visitors from around the world.

The company’s history, however, is defined by far more than leisure cruises. On the morning of September 11, 2001, Circle Line vessels played a critical and heroic role in the largest maritime evacuation in American history, helping to transport approximately 30,000 people to safety from Lower Manhattan in the immediate aftermath of the attacks on the World Trade Center.

Years later, on January 15, 2009, Circle Line was once again present at a defining moment in New York City history — the ‘Miracle on the Hudson.’ When US Airways Flight 1549 made its emergency water landing on the Hudson River, Circle Line crew members and vessels were among the first responders to reach the stricken aircraft and assist in rescuing all 155 passengers and crew on board.

For a deeper look at Circle Line’s full history, you can visit the official Circle Line NYC website at circleline.com.

Popular Cruise Options Departing from Pier 83

One of Circle Line’s greatest strengths is the sheer variety of cruise experiences on offer. Visitors can choose the experience that best matches their available time, interests, and budget:

Best of NYC Cruise

The flagship experience — a 2.5-hour tour that completely circles the island of Manhattan. This full loop covers all five boroughs and passes more than 150 NYC landmarks, giving passengers a comprehensive and unforgettable introduction to the greatest city in the world.

Landmarks Cruise

A 1.5 to 2-hour ‘semi-circle’ tour focusing on the iconic skyline of Midtown and Lower Manhattan. This is the ideal option for visitors with limited time who still want to see the most celebrated landmarks from the water.

Harbor Lights Cruise

An evening cruise that showcases the Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty dramatically illuminated against the night sky. This is widely considered one of the most romantic and visually stunning experiences in New York City.

Seasonal Specials

Circle Line also operates a rotating calendar of special cruises throughout the year, including Fall Foliage cruises up the Hudson to Bear Mountain and holiday-themed tours during the festive season. Check the official website for current seasonal offerings.

Landmarks You Will See from the Water

From the deck of a Circle Line cruise, passengers enjoy unobstructed, water-level views of some of the world’s most recognizable landmarks — angles that are simply impossible to achieve from any street corner or rooftop in the city:

  • Statue of Liberty — boats slow down for extended close-up photography opportunities
  • Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Williamsburg Bridges — seen in their full structural glory from below
  • Empire State Building, One World Trade Center, and the Chrysler Building
  • The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum — located directly adjacent to Pier 83
  • The dramatic glass towers of Midtown Manhattan rising from the riverbank

The Beast’ro: Dining and Entertainment at Pier 83

The Circle Line experience does not begin and end on the water. Right at Pier 83, visitors will find The Beast’ro — a lively waterfront dining and entertainment venue that has become a destination in its own right. With its eye-catching green exterior and bold signage promising ‘The Beast Is Right Behind You,’ it is impossible to miss.

Whether you are arriving early before your cruise or winding down afterward, The Beast’ro offers a fun, casual atmosphere with food, drinks, and riverfront views that complement the overall Circle Line experience perfectly.

Circle Line has invested heavily in passenger comfort to ensure that every cruise is as relaxing as it is exciting:

  • Temperature-controlled indoor cabins with large panoramic windows for all-weather comfort
  • Expansive outdoor decks for open-air viewing and photography
  • Expert live narration by experienced local guides throughout every cruise
  • Free Wi-Fi and clean restroom facilities onboard
  • A fully stocked café and bar serving snacks, sandwiches, cocktails, and craft beer
